As Director of the Val Deakin Theatre Trust and instructor at the Val Deakin Dance School, as well as throughout her impressive 55 year long career, Ms. Deakin has maintained the spirit, focus, commitment and level of hard work necessary to be considered among the best.

Established in 1973, the Val Deakin Theatre Trust presents professional dance performances, varying from modern dances to avid restaging of complete classical ballets.
The Val Deakin Dance School, in affiliation with the Theatre Trust, offers classes in ballet, jazz and tap for adults and children ages 5 and up. The school also offers pre-school movement classes for 3-5 year olds and classes in character dance, mime and pas de deux for beginners and advanced dancers.

Ms. Deakin is a successful and well known choreographer, dance teacher and theatre director within the state of Taranaki. She is a graduate of the Arts Educational School in London as well as the Royal Ballet London and Molly Lake (Pavlova Company) in Turkey. Ms. Deakin was the well deserved recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Suffrage Centennial Award in 1993 and the Taranaki Women of Spirit Award in 2008.
