The Flamenco Festival takes place at Dusseldorf's Tanzhaus NRW from April 14th.

DUSSELDORF, GERMANY, March 09, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Tanzhaus NRW in Dusseldorf is preparing to host its annual Flamenco Festival next month.

Running from Thursday April 14th to Monday April 25th, the event will feature performances by leading dance groups and workshops open to members of the public.

Rather than taking a traditional approach to flamenco, the festival programme is based on contemporary interpretations of the famous Andalusian art form.

However, the familiar passion and fire of the genre will be well represented at the Tanzhaus, where Spanish performers such as Patricia Guerrero, Juan Carlos Lerida and Jose Valencia are due to appear.

Guerrero began dancing at the age of three in her hometown of Granada, while Lerida hails from Seville, the city often described as the birthplace of flamenco.

Valencia is a singer from Lebrija in Andalusia who has worked with many of Spain's leading flamenco companies.

As well as appearing on stage, all three stars will lead workshops at the Dusseldorf venue.

Other flamenco artists due to share their skills and knowledge with aspiring performers during the festival include guitarist Javier Patino and dancers Lucia Alvarez and Olga Pericet.

Each workshop is individually priced and attendees can check the Tanzhaus website for details of specific offerings.

Tickets for the festival's opening performance on April 14th, which will feature choreography by Belen Maya and an appearance from Pericet, are available for EUR25 and EUR35 (GBP21.50 and GBP30.10)

Entitled Happy Dances for Sad People, the show is due to receive its German premiere at the event.
