South Bay Ballet's Bravo! The Classical & Contemporary Ballet Experience: 2011 Line-up Announced
South Bay Ballet continues to enhance the local performing arts scene with its 2011 BRAVO! dance concert bringing world-class classical and contemporary ballet to the Southland while cultivating the work of the region's top choreographers.
TORRANCE, CA, January 08, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- South Bay Ballet's 2010-2011 season continues with its annual dance concert BRAVO! The Classical & Contemporary Ballet Experience, an eclectic repertoire from traditional classics to exciting contemporary ballets. A weekend of thrilling selections and inspired performances, the program will feature South Bay Ballet's entire company and visiting artists including celebrated Santa Cruz Ballet Theatre artistic director and choreographer, Robert Kelley, presenting the premiere of yet another elegant and sophisticated work entitled Seasons. The piece showcases the classical pas de deux style for which South Bay Ballet dancers have become known.
Founder and director of Stone Dance Collective and producer of Chop Shop Dance Festival, artistic director Eva Stone returns to the concert with her original piece, Stick Figures, enhanced for South Bay Ballet's large company of dancers. A touching examination of the relationship between men and women, Stick Figures explores the perplexing and unstoppable human need to connect based in humor and emotion.
BRAVO! expands its mission to support the development of Southern California-based talent with the 2011 concert by featuring two guest companies: Imagine Ballet Company and Santa Barbara Festival Ballet, along with a showcase of two emerging choreographers, Kylette Jaramillo and Tess Goodrich.
Highlights of the program include Calico performed by South Bay Ballet's junior company. Choreographed by Linda Smith and Candice Davis, this uplifting work transports audiences to early western America. BRAVO! closes with the reprise of Sunday in the Park, offering a nostalgic trip to the days of vaudeville performed by the senior company. Sunday in the Park, choreographed by Joan Rorhrback and Candice Davis, features live piano accompaniment by pianist Hiroko Ogawa.
