Local Dancers Get Cracking - From Little Clara to Dream Clara, Daisy Jacobson has grown up with South Bay Ballet's Nutcracker

TORRANCE, CA, November 17, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The season of holiday cheer is upon us, and for all the dreams of sugarplum fairies and Christmas magic, there's one story that has brought it all to life onstage for more than a century. The Nutcracker has remained a favorite around the globe and in the Southland audiences will once again marvel at South Bay Ballet's rendition of this timeless production.

What makes the production a favorite with local audiences is South Bay Ballet's unique storyline, elaborate costuming, stunning sets, and joyous musical composition. And as much as audiences have grown to love it, dancers love it even more. From a dancer's point of view, The Nutcracker is a performance in which they can push their limits and take on roles challenging for them. Just ask senior company member Daisy Jacobson who was South Bay Ballet's first Little Clara six years ago and is performing the ballet's lead role this year.

"From starting out as Little Clara and dancing such parts as a Snow Flake, a Pointe Soldier, a Marzipan, and many others through the years, I am honored to dance the lead of Dream Clara this season," shares Jacobson. "I have always aspired to perform in this premiere role. Now I finally have that chance and it is a very rewarding experience. Balancing rehearsals, school, family and friends is a huge challenge, but this is an exciting time in my life and I wouldn't want to change a thing."

Company members with a knowing professional sheen dance to a story that is familiar to most with uplifting surprises and exciting new twists exclusive to South Bay Ballet's Nutcracker. Featured in the production is the exceedingly graceful Daisy Jacobson dancing as Clara and the solidly talented Skylar Kolby Burson as her Nutcracker Prince. Regina Park Suh delights as the Sugar Plum Fairy; a heart-melting Evyn Nicole Davis performs as the Snow Queen; and Delaney Zieg is refreshingly pert in the role of Dew Drop.

Making a guest appearance as Grandmother Clara this year is Lynn Herweg, Executive Assistant to the Publisher, Daily Breeze. Lynn helped develop the annual Daily Breeze/Torrance Performing Arts Consortium (TPAC) "Making A Difference" award, and is an advisory board member of the South Bay Conservatory. In 2009, she received an honorary award from TPAC for her work promoting the Arts. Lynn is a California native, residing in Redondo Beach for 32 years with her husband of 38 years. She is a proud mother of two grown children as well as two grandchildren.
