Enjoy a Lion Dance at the Cheung Chau Bun Festival in Hong Kong - AsiaRooms.com
Anyone seeking a traditional display of Chinese dancing should head to Hong Kong in May.

HONG KONG, HK, April 27, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- People who want to experience some traditional Chinese celebrations may want to consider booking accommodation in Hong Kong next month.

From May 18th to 22nd, Cheung Chau Island will play host to its annual bun festival, which is characterised by a series of colourful lion dances and Chinese opera shows.

Tourists will also be able to sample some of the sweet treats which are the focus of the celebrations.

Among the highlights for visitors are the lion and dragon dances which wind their way through the narrow streets of Cheung Chau, with the main parade taking place on May 21st.

The festival culminates with a ritual known as "the bun snatching", when young men from the neighbourhood tear down giant towers of buns and hand them out to the crowds, usually at midnight.

According to What's On When, one of the best spots to head to for anyone who wants to see one of these impressive structures is the Taoist Pak Tai Temple, where the bun stack reaches 18m in height.

Traditionally, the men would scale the tower of buns unaided, but now they are all roped for safety.

Meanwhile, those who want to watch the parade are advised to make their way to Pak She Street, San Hing Street or Chung Hok Road.
