Dance to the Beat at the Gendang Nusantara Festival - AsiaRooms.com
Anyone staying in Kuala Lumpur next month should consider taking a day to visit Melaka and experience the Gendang Nusantara Festival.

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA, March 21, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- People who have booked into Kuala Lumpur hotels in April may be interested to hear about a cultural event taking place just outside the city.

The Gendang Nusantara Festival held in Melaka each year will be hoping to get everyone dancing.

Running from April 10th to 16th, the event is a showcase of traditional Malay dancing accompanied by drums and percussion music.

This year is the 13th time that the festival has been held and it was initially developed to encourage young Malaysians to engage with their heritage.

In recent years more than 500 percussionists have taken part, with drummers from around the world travelling to see and hear the musical shows.

These are held at various venues around the city, including Padang Pahlawan, Mahkota Parade and Dataran Sejarah in Ayer Keroh.

Anyone who decides to visit Melaka will find that there is plenty to see and do as well as the Gendang Nusantara Festival - although it could be difficult to escape the sound of the drums.

The town boasts a number of interesting monuments and temples, with one road called "the street of harmony" because there are three buildings each representing a different religion in close proximity to one another.
