South Bay Ballet Closes Season with A Midsummer Night's Dream for One Weekend Only
A Storybook Premiere for One Weekend Only! Saturday, June 6 - 2 & 6 p.m. Sunday, June 7 - 3 p.m. James R. Armstrong Theatre Torrance Cultural Arts Center 3330 Civic Center Drive, Torrance

TORRANCE, CA, May 15, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Join the mischievous sprite Puck when his matchmaking goes awry in South Bay Ballet's Storybook Ballet premiere of A Midsummer Night's Dream. A delightful tale for the young and old, South Bay Ballet's adaption of the famous play by William Shakespeare presents the whimsical story of love, mischief, and magic in a forest inhabited by faerie folk, woodland creatures and a donkey!

Artistic Director Diane Lauridsen and Assistant Artistic Director Candice Davis present the talents of South Bay Ballet in this collaborative production for one weekend only, Saturday, June 6 at 2 p.m. and again at 6 p.m.; and Sunday, June 7 at 3 p.m. at the James R. Armstrong Theatre in Torrance. All seats are $18. Tickets may be purchased online at www.southbayballet.org or by calling South Bay Ballet's representative at (562) 754-6476, in addition to the Theatre Box Office at (310) 781-7171.

President of South Bay Ballet's Board of Directors Catherine Jacobson said excitement is building during rehearsals in anticipation of opening day. "A Midsummer Night's Dream is a ballet for audiences of all ages, especially families. This is a challenging ballet for our dancers, but one that is also deeply rewarding for all involved. We take great pride in sharing this premiere Storybook Ballet with audiences right here in the South Bay. I encourage everyone to purchase their tickets as soon as possible. We anticipate a sell-out of all three performances again this year!"

Performing the principal roles in South Bay Ballet's 2009 production of A Midsummer Night's Dream will be Charlotte Munson as Titania; Elijah S. Pressman as Oberon; Keiji Ino as Puck; Elizabeth Simoens as Helena; Paul Kirk as Demetrius; Tessia G. Lane as Hermia; and Richard Link as Lysander.

Young audience members are encouraged to take part in complimentary dance workshops immediately following each matinee performance to learn an excerpt from A Midsummer Night's Dream. The workshops are taught by instructors of the Lauridsen Ballet Centre, the home of South Bay Ballet.
